Egypt to cooperate with Pakistan in science and technology: "Speaking on the new technological research , Dr. Helal stated that the Egyptian scientists have developed solar and wind energy and were working on using renewable energy for the desalination of the seawater. Once, the scientists develop cheap energy, seawater desalination would be revolutionized. Dr. Helal disclosed that Egypt is using Carbon Nanotube Membrane technology for energy efficient and low cost reverse Osmosis. In the field of medical research, Egyptian scientists are in an advance stage of finding a medicine that would cure the patient suffering from hepatitis C ."

South Africa has received a formal invitation from BRIC, an economic coalition that includes Brazil, Russia, India and China, to be a full member of a new emerging markets bloc called BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

On 23 December last year, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi informed International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane that China, in its capacity as the rotating chair of the BRIC group had reached an agreement with the other BRIC members to invite South Africa to be a full member of the new coalition.

Yang further said that Chinese President Hu Jintao had invited President Jacob Zuma to attend the 3rd BRICS Leaders' Summit, to be held in China this year."
